"Three Shades of Blackness" is a fiction novel, which depicts the story of three girls from different backgrounds as they become friends and grow up together. Shayna is abandoned by her mother and when Mrs. Andrews takes her in, she enrolls her in a religious summer program. There she meets Tanya, a preacher's child, and Mercides, who is from a wealthy background. Although they are from vastly different families, they become fast friends.
